Take a look around the gym these days, and you’ll see more than fit bodies with womanly curves. There’s eyeliner. Berry-colored lips. Trendy braids swinging along the row of treadmills. Workout clothes so chic you can wear them to barre or the bar. The new female athlete is a perfect combination of strength and femininity. “Gender roles are changing even in the gym,” says Eileen Anderson-Fye, Ph.D., Robson associate professor of anthropology and adjunct professor of psychiatry at case Western Reserve University. “Power and femininity are no longer mutually exclusive—it’s not uncommon to see a woman hitting a punching bag wearing a flouncy Athleta skirt.
Enter Ashley Greene. With her sexy, sculpted body, athletic background (“I grew up doing a little bit of everything—martial arts, volleyball, diving, and competitive cheer, dance, and swimming”), and cool sense of style (she’s the face of Oakley Women’s eyewear), Ashley is the embodiment of this sporty beauty phenomenon. Take this anecdote: The 27-year-old Jacksonville, Florida, native recently challenged her boyfriend, entrepreneur Paul Khoury, to a car race at a track in Palm Springs—in high-heeled booties, no less. And guess what? She won! “Why shouldn’t you be able to look cute when you win?” Ashley says playfully. The actress—who stars in the upcoming movies Burying the Ex and Staten Island Summer—reveals how she manages to kick butt and look gorgeous doing it.

Ashley is naast Pierce Brosnan gecast in de thriller ‘Urge’.
Twilight‘s Ashley Greene has signed on to star alongside Pierce Brosnan in the thriller Urge.
The independently financed feature marks the directorial debut of veteran film producer Aaron Kaufman (Machete, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Chef).
The story revolves around Theresa (Greene) and her group of friends who escape on an island destination weekend and find themselves unable to resist trying a new designer drug. The drug appears to be perfect. However, the group discovers its one major side effect: It makes people lose the ability to control their urges. Brosnan will play the creator and gatekeeper of the drug.
“Ashley Greene brings the gravitas and intensity that the role of Theresa demands,” Kaufman said. “I am very excited to collaborate with her.”
Bridgeworks Media Capital, TCI and Tresoro Ventures are financing the film, which begins shooting in New York later this month. Skip Williamson (Underworld) and Mark Neveldine (Crank) are producing through their Blackmrkt Incorporated banner. Tim Smith, Alastair Burlingham, Lee Vandermolen, Yoram Barzilai, Frank Martinez, Anthony Gudas, Clay Pecorin and Peter Fruchtman are executive producing.
IM Global has come aboard to handle international sales for the film.
Greene, who is best known for playing Alice Cullen in The Twilight Saga, most recently was seen in Burying the Ex, which premiered in September at the Venice Film Festival. Past film credits include Wish I Was Here and Butter.
She is repped by CAA, McKeon-Myones Management and Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown.

The past decade has been a whirlwind for Ashley Greene, who, after only a handful of day-player gigs, landed the role of a lifetime playing Alice Cullen in the “Twilight” saga. But with the five-film series wrapped, the 27-year-old actress is still experiencing firsts: This past weekend, she made her debut appearance at the Venice Film Festival, where her latest film, the horror-comedy “Burying the Ex,” premiered. “Now it’s about choosing the right projects,” she says. “You build [your] resume and there are pros and cons to it, but [then] you don’t want to take anything and everything.” We caught up with Greene on a recent stop in Chicago, where she attended the W Chicago Lakeshore Renovation Reveal Party.
ROAD TO HOLLYWOOD
“I wanted to be a lawyer or a psychologist [growing up]. I’m from Jacksonville, Florida, and where I grew up there’s not as much influence artistically as in some of the bigger cities, so I didn’t really even think [acting] was an option. … Then stuff started happening. My parents said, ‘If you get an agent, find a manager, we’ll let you go out to [LA] for a year.’ I managed to — every time they were like, ‘Ehh, maybe you should come back and go to college’ — I’d book a day job, or do something to be able to stay out there.”ROLE CALL
“When I moved to LA when I was 17, I didn’t realize how competitive it was. … But that worked in my favor because I wasn’t scared [at auditions]; it was just fun. Same thing with ‘Twilight’ — I didn’t realize the weight of what this film was. I auditioned four or five times and it came between me and this other girl who always books the roles that I want, and I ended up booking it, which was awesome. I was like, ‘Finally!’ It was worth the wait.”STAR-STRUCK
“Cate Blanchett would definitely make me star-struck; and Meryl Streep, of course. She just seems like a powerhouse. I worked with Alan Rickman — he was a little intimidating at first because he has that kind of dry, English sense of humor and sarcasm. I played his daughter, so I think he was a little nicer to me.”IN MY FREE TIME …
“Recently, I’ve been making jewelry. My friends and I will go downtown and get pieces — we’re doing a lot of beads and some metals and learning how to do clasps and trying everything. I really want to get [the tools] to engrave stuff. It’s fun to play around without any kind of pressure surrounding it.”
